On the left hand side of the page are a list of 10 battles, your group should have chosen one of these battles.

As a group, you will describe the battle to the class along with the battle simulation.

Mexican Problems

Phase 1

Mr. Vargo is El Presidente of Mexico.  We have struggled mi amigos, but now we are free from Spain.  We face a new threat, our borderlands are vulnerable.  The threats, USA migration, Russian Migration, and Native American Attacks.  As a member of my cabinet, I want you to examine the actions of the Mexican government in dealing with the threat and explain how these actions would combat these problems. 

Phase 2

Identify the problems that occurred with the implementation of the above actions.

Phase 3

Create a visual aid to show me the actions of the Mexican Government, the negative things that resulted from the phase 1 actions.

Phase 4

Write a paragraph addressing the problems you identified and how to possibly solve the problems and why you would feel this would work.

Manifest Destiny

1. Research the idea of Manifest Destiny. Where did it come from, what did it mean?

2. What were the reasons people migrated west?

3. Pick two possible trails settlers could have used to migrate west.  Research the trails and record your findings.

4. How did people make a living and survive in the west?  List and explain

5. What new inventions were created because of the migration west?  Describe and find a picture.

6. Explain how "Manifest Destiny" led to war with Mexico? 

7. List and describe the major events and people involved with the conflict with Mexico.

North American Native American Tribes

Calafornia, Great Basin, Great Plains, Northeast, Northwest, Plateau, Southeast, Southwest and Subartic. 

You will need to pick one tribe from each of the follwing regions, you can find the tribes listed on page 8 in your textbooks.  Once you have picked your tribes, you will need to find the following.

1. Location
2. Settlements/Homes
3. Clothing
4. Tools/weapons
5. Peaceful or warlike
6. Nomadic or settled

9-4 Civil War

Items to find:

1.       Location and Date: you will need to be able to locate the battle on Google Earth map.

2.       The leaders of each side, identify their position and what army they were fighting for.

3.       Troop/naval numbers, causalities, if available.

4.       How the battle was won.  Act as if you are explaining the battle to a person who has no prior knowledge of the Civil War, describe the events that took place for the battle to be won.

5.       Impact of the battle:  What was the significance of the battle, how did it impact the rest of the war.

Note:  You may have to provide information that addresses the prequel of the battle.  How or what events led troops to be at that spot.  It may help in answering #5. 

You may use your books, but also use the internet. 

You may print out maps to help you with your location of the areas.

Read the following Article: Peter Francisco: Remarkable American Revolutionary War Soldier
On a word document, please describe this mans life.  Include major events, accomplishments, and interesting facts about this person.

List three battles Benedict Arnold participated in as a colonial soldier.
Pick one of the above battles and describe the contributions/actions of Arnold during the battle.
List the reasons Arnold defected to the British.  Do you think his decision was justified?  Explain.
